BOSA

BOSA

Ranked second nationally as the Most Beautiful Village in Italy in 2014, Bosa is a charming town that develops along the course of the river Temo, which, over the centuries, has favoured traditional tanning activity. The ancient village lies between the north bank of the river and the slopes of the Serravalle hill, on top of which stand the remains of the castle of the Malaspina, a noble Tuscan family that took possession of the territory following the Pisan occupation of the south of the island.

Inside the castle walls, the palatine church of S. Maria de Sos Regnos Altos, with its beautiful 14th-century frescoes, can still be visited.Bosa is a town with beautiful views and a thousand directions: if one places oneself in the southern bend of the river, one can get a glimpse of the ancient village with its narrow, colourful historic houses that attract not only tourists and travellers, but often also new residents from all over the world. If, on the other hand, one stands in the northern bend of the river and looks southwards, one can see the striking series of old tanneries, built from the 17th century onwards and active until the 1960s.

The road along the southern bend of the river then leads inland to San Pietro Extra Muros, one of Sardinia’s best-preserved Romanesque churches. If, on the other hand, you follow the river as far as the mouth and the port, to the north you will see the striking cliffs of Cane Malu, where you will feel as if you are taking a moon dive into a turquoise sea.
